Our History

In 1962, Colorado Christian Service Camp officially became a corporation, but before that, the Colorado Christian Service Camp would rent other locations to hold its camps. In 1964, they purchased the Rocking R Sky Ranch and established a Christian youth ministry. Today, the corporation operates under the name of Camp Como and offers summer and winter residential camps, off-site adventure camps, and year-round retreat facilities.
Camp Como is steeped in Colorado history. The original ranch house, known as “the Homestead” cabin, is built from logs cut in 1886 and is used today as a game room. In the 1840’s, Kit Carson trapped beaver in the Tarryall River basin located west of camp. A few years after Kit Carson, in that same river basin, many gold and silver mines were established. The town of Como, one mile below camp, was an important, narrow-gauge rail center during mining boom days. An old cemetery exists just east of camp. All of these features contribute to the historic feel of the camp.
Our Mission
Through this unique mountain environment to encourage and challenge campers to become fully devoted followers of Christ by making decisions to follow Christ, rededicating their lives to Christ, and being called into full-time ministry.
Our Facilities
Camp Como sits on 240 acres at the foot of Little Baldy Mountain and Mt. Silverheels, one mile above the historic town of Como, Colorado, at an elevation of 10,125 feet and bordered on two sides by national forest property and governmental land. From Denver, we are an hour drive southwest on Highway 285 over beautiful Kenosha Pass. From Colorado Springs, we are a 90-minute drive just northeast of Fairplay, Colorado. To the ski resort of Breckenridge, the adventurous route of Boreas Pass Road (open only in the summer) and the year-round route through Fairplay are both 45-minute scenic drives.
Camp Como has a bed capacity of 194 within dorm-style rooms and a few more in stand-alone cabins. At the north end of our camp, we have tent sites that can accommodate a large group of campers for rental purposes. In addition, we have a platform tent area that can house up to 60 more campers. In total, Camp Como has housing options available for all sizes and unique needs of Christian camping groups.
Our newly remodeled dining hall, featuring a commercial kitchen, can accommodate up to 200 campers and staff, both inside our beautiful wood-beamed hall and outside on the terraced seating area overlooking the beautiful mountains of Park County. Near the dining hall, our younger campers can enjoy a huge playground area, along with the many outdoor activities for middle school, high school, and adults. For those more reflective, there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy God’s amazing landscape.
